The malt extract addition provides a gentle carbohydrate bridge that supports slow-metabolizing species during the grain colonization phase without the osmotic inhibition caused by higher-sugar grain amendments. Designed to transfer cleanly into the Aura Forest Floor substrate without creating a nutrient discontinuity that stresses finicky cultures. Hydrated to 52% via No-Soak, No-Simmer (NSNS) process control. Sterilized at 118.3°C / 15 PSI for 172 minutes (elevation-adjusted, 4,984 ft). Validated to F₀ ≥ 60. Pre-installed injection port. Species Compatibility
Minimal amendment profile designed not to interfere with the delicate culture requirements of exotic and slow-growing species. Morel: grain acts as a nutrient reservoir only — the substrate does the work. Chicken of the Woods: responds poorly to high-sugar grain environments; this lean amendment avoids osmotic stalling. Bioluminescent species: any nutrient excess can suppress luminescence gene expression during colonization — lean grain matched to lean Aura broth maintains consistent phenotype. Colonization timeline is longer than other pillars; the 7-day QA hold is a minimum.
